However, what is evident is that there are a number of tricks and puzzles which cannot be solved by the simple brain operation alone.
Optical illusions are the most popular and one example is the set of parallel lines which appear crooked when the bounding lines are broken and joined unevenly. The mirage in the desert is another optical illusion where we see images drifting and appearance of water where there is none.
Similarly word puzzles are made where the usage of words and their grammatical connotations are intermingled to make the brain dizzy with the implications.

The way the brain perceives objects (binocular vision) is another area where there is plenty of scope for tricks. The person is asked to stare at a particular image for a period of time and when he looks away, he sees another image in his mind.
Mind teasers are an interesting way to spend time and conjurers and magicians use the optical illusion in many of their magical acts. Teasers are the way the people’s attention is drawn to one fact or object while the magician quietly moves another object into a corner in the dark, ready for exposure to the audience when the lights come on.

Q: Mother Barbara has been in charge of distributing candles at the Hope for Ascension Convent in Agnostic Springs, Utah for two decades. Due to the convent’s tightening budget, Mother Barbara has been instructed to employ any strategy she can to save the convent money on candles. Always resourceful, Mother Barbara knows that four candle stubs can be connected together to make another complete candle. How many complete candles can be made from sixteen candle stubs?

A: Five complete candles because each of the four candles composed from the sixteen stubs will themselves give off a stub. The stub from each of the four candles created from the original sixteen stubs can be connected together to yield a fifth candle created entirely from stubs.

Q: How many drops of water can be put into an empty bowl?

A: Only one because after that drop the bowl will cease to be empty!

Q: The letter “t” is used ______ times in this sentence?

A: Eight times as there are seven instances of the letter “t” outside of the blank, but when one writes out the number “eight” inside the blank, one adds another “t” to the sentence. This makes eight total instances of the letter “t” in the sentence.

Fun Games to Help Improve Your Memory

Whether you are young or old, trying to remember thing sometimes can be difficult especially if you have a lot to remember. The practical ways of remembering things such as writing on note pads, leaving a message on your phone or writing things on your calendar does not always work. However, there are other ways to remember things that are fun and can help improve your memory.

The first game is concentration which is typically used with the alphabet. For example, there are eight people playing concentration. The first person will say the letter A and a word that starts with A such as apple.

The second person will say the letter B and a word that starts with the letter B such as Boy in addition to the letter A word given by the first person.

This process goes on until the last word for the last letter of the alphabet has been given. As the people are taking turns remembering other people’s letters while saying their own, if they can not remember any letter they are out of the game.

Other fun games to improve your memory include the picture game in which you are shown a number of items for a minute of two and must writed down as many items as much as you can remember.

Exercise your mind
One of the reasons why the brain slows down is because it is not used as often as it should be used. There are studies in fact that support this. People who answer crossword puzzles, play strategic games and work even when they are old are less likely to have Alzheimer’s. The use of the brain is actually a preventive measure for the onset of forgetfulness during old age.
